    A made 3-point field goal in the final 10 seconds of regulation sent the game to overtime and ultimately the Milligan College women’s basketball team to a 64-59 loss to Bluefield College in the Appalachian Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan led by as many as 17 in the second half before a furious comeback from Bluefield sent the Buffs to defeat.

    After playing an even first quarter, the Milligan College women’s basketball team could not keep pace with Shawnee State University Saturday in a neutral game played at Pikeville University. Shawnee State posted high scoring in each of the next three quarters to win 106-50 in the Buffaloes’ second game of the season.

    The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Monday that 12 Milligan teams earned the distinction for Scholar-Teams for the 2018-19 academic year. These 12 teams were among 1,939 total teams across the NAIA recognized with this award.
