Buffs fall at Allen despite fourth-quarter surge

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 13, 2019) – Trailing by seven near the end of the third quarter, the Milligan College women's basketball team rallied back to take the lead in the fourth, but ultimately fell at Allen University, 53-44, Wednesday night in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game.

The game was low scoring through three quarters, with Allen ahead 29-24, until Milligan used a 13-2 run to jump into the lead in the final period. Allen answered with a run of its own moments later, most of the damage coming on 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions near the three-minute mark. The latter 3-pointer put the Yellow Jackets ahead 44-37, and they held on with free throws from there.

Defensively, Milligan held Allen to 12 first-half points, but the Buffs were slow on offense as well, leading with only 16 points of their own.

Nine Buffs entered the scoring column, led by Lily Griffith with 10 points. Kaely Gose followed with nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Hannah Wyrick scored five points.

Up next, Milligan heads to Athens, Tennessee, Saturday for an AAC game against Tennessee Wesleyan University before returning home to host Montreat College next Wednesday, Nov. 20.
