Buffs finish regular season with sixth straight win

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2019) – Bekah Cundiff and Alyson McMillan scored a pair of goals early in the first half to lead the Milligan College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win in the regular-season finale Saturday on Anglin Field. The match was Milligan's second straight shutout and sixth straight win, during which time the Buffaloes have outscored opponents 27-5.

As the regular-season finale, Milligan honored its senior class prior to the match. The Buffaloes sent Nicole Blais, Mechala Blankenship, Cundiff, Dharma Fawbush, McMillan and Alexis Williams off with a win.

Cundiff scored the eventual winner in the 11th minute before assisting on McMillan's goal less than five minutes later. Cundiff's goal was her 17th of the season which leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference in conference-only scoring. It also was her 12th goal during Milligan's six-match winning streak.

McMillan scored her third goal of the season, taking the pass from Cundiff inside the penalty area and sending her shot past Bryan goalkeeper Caragan Treola, whose diving attempt to stop it was not enough.

Milligan dominated the match and had a shot count of 19 compared to Bryan's three. McMillan took seven of those 19 shots, four of which she put on frame. Seven other Buffs took at least one shot, including Fawbush, Ashlen Burch, Isabella Cranford and Danielle Calhoun who took multiple.

Milligan finished the regular season 10-4-1 (10-2-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) and will be the No. 4 seed heading into the postseason tournament. The Buffaloes finished tied with Reinhardt for third and drew Reinhardt during the regular season, but the Eagles took the No. 3 spot with a higher goal differential in conference play.

After a first round bye, Milligan will host Bryan College once again in a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 5. More information on the tournament, including pairings and start times, will be announced at a later date.
