Milligan College, Tenn. (March 24, 2010) --- The Milligan College women's tennis  team notched a win against NCAA Div. II Mars Hill College 5-4 on Wednesday while  the men's tennis team fell to the Lions 0-9.
The Lady Buffs took the  second and third matches in doubles play and took the fourth through sixth  singles matches on their way to winning over the Lady Lions. 
Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and 
Sarah Carpenter (Mountain City,  Tenn.) won Milligan's first match of the day in the number two doubles  seed while the pair of 
Heather Bell (Franklin, N.C.) and  
Janie Mullins (Greenville, Ala.) helped the Lady Buffs to an  early 2-1 lead over Mars Hill. 
Halie Winfrey (Fayetteville,  Ga.), Bell and Carpenter went on to win their doubles matches  also.
Carpenter was Milligan's hinge. The Lady Buffs and the Lady Lions  were locked in a 4-4 tie, and Carpenter was the only Lady Buff yet to finish her  singles match. She would prove to be the tie breaker. She lost the first set,  but battled back in the second and third sets to claim the victory for the Lady  Buffs.
Senior 
Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a  close match against Mars Hill's Bradley Bassinger. Upshaw played a tough match  but lost in the final set of his singles match.
Both  tennis teams will take to the courts again Saturday, March 27, at noon. The  Buffs and Lady Buffs are set to defend their home courts against AAC opponent  UVA-Wise.
