Milligan tennis falls to former AAC foe

Bristol, VA. (March 4, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's and women's tennis teams battled former AAC conference rival King College Thursday afternoon. The Buffs lost a tough match 0-5 and the Lady Buffs played hard but also fell 1-5.

The Lady Buffs played the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches tightly, as Caitlin Conley (Bristol, Tenn.) and Jessie Rose Remegi (Hilton Head, S.C.) fell by the final of 8-6. In the No. 3 match, Janie Mullins (Greenville, Ala.) and Heather Bell (Franklin, N.C.) also fell 8-6.

In No. 1 singles play, Conley won Milligan's lone match taking the first set 6-3, and dominating the second set, 6-1 against Sarah Anderson.

On the men's side, the No. 1 doubles team of Rickey Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Wesley Rice (Knoxville, Tenn.) competed with the Tornado's Hiroki Takagi and Juan Avila and fought hard before dropping the match 8-4. In singles play, No. 1 Jones played a close match with Oriol Miriallas, but eventually dropped the match in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

On the year, the Buffs are 0-4, while the women are 2-3.

The next time the Buffs and Lady Buffs will be on the court is March 19, for their first conference match of the year against newly added AAC member Reinhardt College on the road in Waleska, GA. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
