Milligan tennis sweeps on senior day

Milligan College, Tenn. (April 18, 2010) --- The Milligan College tennis program celebrated senior day in style as they sweep USC-Lancaster at Mathes Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Buffs won 8-1 and the men won 8-1 over the Lancers.

The Lady Buffs sent lone senior Janie Mullins (Greeneville, Ala.) off with a victory. Mullins, in her last home match in the black and orange, won 8-1 over her opponent in singles play. Mullins teamed up with Heather Bell (Franklin, N.C.) to win her doubles match 8-1. Caitlyn Conley (Bristol, Tenn.) and Jessie Rose Remegi (Hilton Head, S.C.) teamed up to win the first seed doubles match 8-2. Lady Buffs Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Celeste Carpenter (Mountain City, Tenn.) also won singles matches over Lady Lancers.

Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) was the lone senior on the men's squad, and won both of his last matches on campus. He won his singles match 8-0 and, with the help of his teammate Kody Horne (Summertown, Tenn.), won his doubles match 8-5. Horne also won his singles match by a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory. Ricky Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Wesley Rice (Knoxville, Tenn.) won their doubles match in the first seed with a score of 8-4. Matt Clark (Kingsport, Tenn.) won his singles match by shutting out his opponent, winning with a final score of 8-0.

The Lady Buffs finish the regular season with a record of 10-4 overall. The Lady Buffs also recently finished out their AAC campaign with a perfect 6-0. The Buffs finish their regular season 4-10 overall and split in their AAC play 3-3.

The Milligan tennis program will hit the court on Friday and Saturday in Chattanooga, Tenn., as they will begin the 2010 AAC Conference Tournament.
