Buffaloes men's soccer wins home opener

Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over the University of the Cumberlands in their home opener on Wednesday night at Anglin Field.

Sandre Wilson (Mandeville, Jamaica) opened the scoring when he found the net in the 18th minute to give Milligan an early 1-0 lead. That would be the lone score until the 82nd minute when Paidiwa Mushayamunda (Harare, Zimbabwe) scored with the help of Chris Ochieng (Nairobi, Kenya) and Colby Robbins (Randleman, N.C.) to put Milligan up 2-0. The Buffaloes added the final goal of the night in the game's 85th minute when Ochieng found the net off the assist of Nahom Tekle (Ethiopia).

Defensively, freshman Dan Ball (Chatham, England) recorded five saves in the shutout.

“It was a great result against a good team,” Head Coach Adam Laney said. “Cumberlands is traditionally very strong, and I have a lot of respect for them. I am very proud of finally getting the shutout against a good team. It was a very exciting night and exciting fans. It was a great atmosphere all around.”

With the win, Milligan improves to 3-2 overall.

The Buffaloes open AAC action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Bluefield (Va.) College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
