Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 24, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to power past AAC foe Union College with a 3-2 victory at Anglin Field on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring with a goal by
Jonathan Watson in the fourth minute. Despite four shots on goal in the first half, Milligan was unable to find the back of the net as they trailed 1-0 at the break.
The Buffaloes continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs defense in the second period. Milligan finally broke through in the 72nd minute when
Nahom Tekle (Ethiopia) found the net off of a
Colby Robbins (Randleman, N.C.) free kick and a
Karlo Soto-Castillo (Los Angeles, Calif.) assist. The Buffaloes took the lead in the 80th minute when Tekle scored again off of a pass from
Nimely Robertson (Liberia).
Sandre Wilson (Mandeville, Jamaica) added another Buffalo goal to the scoreboard when he slipped past a Union defender and found the net in the 83rd minute. Marc Miller gave Union a goal in the 85th minute, but the Milligan defense kept the Bulldogs from tying the game in the closing minutes to secure the victory.
Defensively,
Dan Ball (Chatham, England) recorded two saves for Milligan, while Andrew Metcalf had seven saves for Union. As a team, the Buffaloes outshot Union 29-4.
“I've never seen anything like that, and it was a great game,” Head Coach
Adam Laney said. “Both teams fought really hard. I am really proud of our guys for continuing to push forward even when it wasn't falling time and time again. It is always fun to watch a group of guys who can overcome the circumstances and come out on top.”
With the win, Milligan improves to 2-0 in AAC action and 5-2 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Waleska, Ga., to face Reinhardt University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
