Buffaloes soccer falls in overtime

Banner Elk, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2011) --- The Milligan College soccer team battled hard, but fell 3-2 in overtime to the University of Montevallo during the Michael Shope Memorial Tournament at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Buffaloes opened the scoring for the game when Nahom Tekle (Louisville, Ky.) found the net from 20-yards out in the 31st minute. The Eagles, who are ranked 19th in the NCAA Division-II poll, quickly responded in the 35th minute when Shane Howard found the net off a Stephen Betty pass. Neither team could find the net in the remainder of the half as the teams went into the half tied at 1-1.

Sandre Wilson (Mandeville, Jamaica) put Milligan back in front as he knocked a Nimely Robertson (Liberia) pass into the net in the 56th minute. However, Montevallo forced overtime with an Alex Morton goal in the 80th minute. In the OT period, the Eagles took the goal advantage with a goal in the 97th minute.

Defensively, Alex Haun (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded seven saves for Milligan.

With the loss, Milligan moves to 1-1.

The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, Sept. 9, when they square off against Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, in the Dave Jones Memorial Classic. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
