Jefferson City, Tenn. (Oct. 14, 2012) --- The Milligan College tennis program split a match with NCAA Division II Carson-Newman College on Sunday afternoon. The Milligan women defeated the Lady Eagles 8-1, while the men came up short 5-4.

  On the women's side,
Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) defeated Jennifer Ott 6-0, 6-0.
Mary Grace Burchfield (Piney Flats, Tenn.) picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tiffany Delias.

  In doubles action,
Rachel Hodas (Knoxville, Tenn.) and
Sarah Rainwater (Knoxville, Tenn.) defeated the duo of Stefy Stand and Devon Jennings 8-2.

  The Milligan men saw
Andy Pullen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Colin Bumann (Abilene, Texas) defeated Derek Holdway and Paul Birdsong 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. Pullen picked up a 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 victory over Juan Sebastian-Perez.

  Bumann also picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Jonathan Allen, while
Caleb Friddell (Ooltewah, Tenn.) defeated Dalton Moore 1-6, 7-6, 10-7.

  “It was a good result for us against a Division II team,” Head Coach
Ryan Reynolds said. “The women played well and just kept rolling through the match, while the men showed a vast improvement from last year. I am really pleased with how today went.”
