Norcross, Ga. (April 27, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's tennis advanced to the final day of the 2012 NAIA National Qualifier with a 5-0 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday in Norcross, Ga. The Milligan men won their first match of the 5-0 over Bluefield, but fell 5-0 to top-seeded Xavier University.
The women's squad advanced to the semifinals with a 5-0 victory over AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan. In doubles action,
Sarah Rainwater (Nashville, Tenn.) and
Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won their matchup 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while
Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Celeste Carpenter (Mountain City, Tenn.) recorded a 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Ahmee Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Hallie Winfrey (Faytteville, Ga.) won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
On the men's side,
Rickey Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and
Mickey Brown (Bluff City, Tenn.) started the day off with a 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Bluefield. The team of
Wesley Rice (Knoxville, Tenn.) and
Sebastian Jonnson (Lysekill, Sweden) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
Against top-seeded Xavier, the Buffaloes kept fighting, but were unable to record a win. Rice and Jonsson fought hard as they narrowly fell at No. 2 doubles.
The Milligan women return to action on Saturday, April 28, when they battle top-seeded Xavier University with a berth to the finals on the line. The action in Norcross, Ga., is slated for 8:30 a.m.ÂÂ
