Johnson City, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team saw
Chris Ochieng (Nairobi, Kenya) score two goals in the second half to lift the Buffaloes past NCAA Division I East Tennessee State University in exhibition action on Tuesday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn. ÂÂ
                        ÂÂ
The Buccaneers opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute when David Geno scored off an assist from Itode Fubara. Milligan kept pushing the ball down the field in the remainder of the half, but was unable to break onto the scoreboard.
ÂÂ
In the second half, Ochieng evened the match in the 55
th minute when he scored off a deflection. The senior pushed Milligan into the lead in the game's 70
th minute off an assist from
Nahom Tekle (Ethopia). The Buffaloes defense limited the number of chances ETSU got to preserve the victory.
ÂÂ
  In the net,
Dan Ball (Chatham, England) got the starting nod and recorded three saves, while
Alex Haun (Knoxville, Tenn.) kept ETSU off the board in the second half.
ÂÂ
“It is always great to come and get a result on the scoreboard, much less against a Division I team,” Milligan Head Coach
Adam Laney said. “In all fairness to ETSU, they experimented a lot and moved some guys around, but we can't take away from our guys for getting a result against a Division I opponent. I am certainly proud of them for that and the battle. We have some work to do, but you can't help but be happy with the result.”
ÂÂ
The Buffaloes will officially open the 2012 season on Saturday, Aug. 25, when they host Southern Poly. Game time at Anglin Field is slated for 6:30 p.m.ÂÂ
