Milligan men's soccer drops close game

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2013) â€" The Milligan men's soccer team fell in a tough loss against AAC opponent, Tennessee Wesleyan, 2-1 during Saturday afternoon's competition.
 
To start the game, the Buffaloes came out strong. Scoring in the 12th minute, Andre Ottoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put the Buffaloes ahead 1-0. Milligan recorded nine shots, and the Buffalo defense allowed only three shots on goal in the first half.
 
The second half proved to be more challenging as Milligan fell prey to an own goal, which tied the game at 1-1. Defensively, Milligan showed a strong effort with Dan Ball (Chatham, England) recording seven saves. It wasn't until a late goal by the Bulldogs' Ben Wilks to put Tennessee Wesleyan ahead. The Buffaloes were unable to answer in the remaining minutes making the final score 2-1.
 
Saturday's loss brings the Buffaloes to a record of 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
 
Anthony Matekenya (Harare, Zimbawe) had five shots on the night while Andre Ottoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had four shots and a goal. Nimely Robertson (Liberia) had the lone assist for the Buffaloes.
 
The Buffaloes return to Anglin Field for their next home game against Truett-McConnell College October 9 in another exciting Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
