Atlanta, Ga. (April 20, 2013) --- The Milligan College men's tennis team advanced to the finals of the NAIA/AAC Direct Qualifier with victories over Fisk College and Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. The Buffaloes will square off against top-seeded Xavier University at 10 a.m., on Sunday morning with a spot in the 2013 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships on the line.
In the semifinals against Tennessee Wesleyan, the Buffaloes saw the duo of
Sebastian Jonsson (Lysekill, Sweden) and
Jackson Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn.) defeated Oleskii Lahuza and David Escobosa 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. The team of
Andy Pullen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Colin Bumann (Abilene, Tex.) gave Milligan a 2-0 lead after doubles with an 8-2 victory over Bret Wade and Rodney Pineros at No. 2 doubles.
Jonsson defeated Lahuza 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Buffaloes, and Bumann defeated Gad Azulay 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Lenoir secured the win for Milligan with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Fransico Gallardo at No. 5 singles.
Earlier in the day, the Buffaloes cruised by Fisk College 6-0 to advance to the meeting with Tennessee Wesleyan.
Milligan improves to 10-11 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Sunday, April 21, as they square off with nationally Xavier University. Match time in Atlanta, Ga., is set for 10 a.m.
