HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 11, 2014) â€" While the No. 19 Milligan College women's tennis team won its seventh consecutive match with a 9-0 sweep of Missouri Valley, the men came up on the short end of a 6-3 decision in the teams' final matches at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort Tuesday.
Milligan's women (9-2, 1-0 AAC) won all nine points without dropping a set.
Sarah Rainwater and
Celeste Carpenter, who stayed unbeaten in singles during the Buffaloes current seven-match winning streak, beat Adela Gil Mayor and Daniela Cheda at two and five singles, respectively.
For the Milligan men (6-5, 0-1 AAC),
Fernando Gonzalez and
Jackson Lenoir battled back from a set down to win in super tiebreakers in singles, but Missouri Valley took two of the three doubles points and swept the rest of the singles.
Milligan will be in Nashville, Tenn., for matches against Graceland and Xavier March 21-22 before returning home for a conference match against Union College on Wednesday, March 26.
