Ranked XULA defeats men's, No. 18 women's tennis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 22, 2014) â€" In the Milligan College tennis team's first match to feature nationally ranked opponents on both sides, the men and No. 18 women were beaten by Xavier University of Louisiana 9-0 and 8-1, respectively, in a neutral-site match at Tennessee State University Saturday.
 
XULA's men rank No. 7 in the latest NAIA coaches' top 25 poll while the women rank No. 2.
 
The Milligan men (6-7, 0-1 AAC) fell in straight sets from top to bottom. Fernando Gonzalez and Jackson Lenoir kept their doubles match on court two close but fell 8-6.
 
Milligan's women (9-4, 1-0 AAC) were beaten in similar fashion despite Ahmee Kelly and Celeste Carpenter breezing through an 8-1 victory at three doubles.
 
Milligan will be back on the courts for more tennis action Wednesday, March 26 for a conference meeting with Union at the Mathes Tennis Center.
