Men's, No. 19 women's tennis sweeps Johnson University

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 5, 2014) â€" In the first evening match of the year, the Milligan College men's and No. 19 women's tennis team enjoyed a comfortable defeat of visiting Johnson University, allowing only eight games the entire match and beating the Royals 9-0 on both sides.
 
Milligan's men improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the spring segment. The women, who moved up one spot in the most recent NAIA top-25 poll, improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the spring.
 
Kayla Kelly, in her first match back since the end of basketball season, looked sharp with doubles partner Rachel Hodas. The pair won 8-0 on doubles court one before being given the rest of the night off.
 
Across the board, Milligan breezed through the doubles matches and had very little trouble with singles. For the women, Sarah Rainwater, Caroline Morelli and Celeste Carpenter won 6-0,6-0 on the first three singles courts. Matias Yanez took home a 6-0,6-0 victory on court two for the men.
 
Milligan plays AAC opponent Tennessee Wesleyan College at home this Saturday, March 8 at 12 p.m. at the Mathes Tennis Center.
