Fernando Gonzalez's straight-sets victory at three singles gave the Milligan College men's tennis team the clinching point Sunday at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort as the men defeated Dickinson College 5-4 and the No. 19 women won 7-2.
Milligan's men improved to 5-4 while the women won their fifth straight to improve to 7-2.
Gonzalez won 7-6, 6-2 in a tightly-contested dual meet that actually saw none of the matches taken to a third set despite the teams splitting singles play 3-3.
Colin Bumann and
Jackson Lenoir won handily at one and four singles, dropping only six games between the two of them.
In women's action, Dickinson was able to take one of the opening doubles points with an 8-3 victory over
Rachel Hodas and
Kayla Kelly on court one, but Hodas and Kelly responded with easy victories in singles.
Milligan will continue playing in Hilton Head, S.C., this week, facing Spring Arbor and Missouri Valley on Monday and Tuesday, March 10-11.
