Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite early lead, men's soccer settles for draw

LEBANON, Tenn. (August 30, 2014) â€" Ryan Reilly and Jonathan Watson gave the Milligan College men's soccer team a two-goal lead within five minutes of action, but a resilient Lyon College battled back to force a draw, 3-3, in double overtime Saturday morning in a neutral-site game held on the campus of Cumberland University.

Similar to the team's 4-1 victory over Cumberland the night before, much of Milligan's (1-0-1) fate was decided in the closing minutes of the first half and opening minutes of the second. Leading 2-0 in the 43rd minute, Milligan surrendered a goal by Lyon's Jack Hayes to cut the lead in half. Fifteen minutes later, Hayes provided an assist to Abdullah Adam to level the match at two apiece.

Jonathan Colson gave Milligan the lead back in the 61st minute with his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Reilly, but Adam gave Lyon the answer once again with the equalizer in the 72nd.

"Good battle and fair result," Head Coach Adam Laney said. "We got up early and need to learn how to put a full game together. If we take out a few small mental lapses, we get the win."

Milligan took 22 shots in the contest, including 10 shots on goal. Lyon managed 23 and 11, respectively. Senior Dan Ball made seven saves in a grueling 110 minutes of action, the team's first draw since the 2009 season.

Milligan has one more game on the road, against Shawnee State University on Saturday, Sept. 6, before welcoming its home crowd to Anglin Field for a home-opening meeting with No. 22 Bethel University on Monday, Sept. 8.
