Men's soccer suffers first overtime loss of season

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2014) â€" Six games into a season that has seemed to be all about overtime, the Milligan College men's soccer team suffered its first overtime loss in a 2-1 decision to Truett-McConnell College Saturday evening in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
 
Milligan, which has been to OT four times in the last five games, fell to 2-2-2 (0-2 AAC) and dropped its OT record to 1-1-2. Truett-McConnell improved to 4-3 (1-0 AAC) which put the Bears fourth in the conference standings.
 
Tapiwa Kaseke gave Milligan the lead in the third minute on the team's first shot of the game, but the Buffaloes were held scoreless with only six more shots for the remainder of the contest. Cole Lewis and Lewis Grant had two shots apiece.
 
Truett-McConnell took 11 shots in the victory, including six which were put on target, forcing Milligan senior goalkeeper Dan Ball to make four saves.
 
The Bears tied the match at 1-1 in the 41st minute on a goal by Josh Bargary. Matthew Robertshaw had the assist.
 
TMC's Rudy Vasquez had the golden goal in the first overtime period, with Josiah Saydee earning the assist. Vasquez led the Bears with four shots.
 
Milligan will play in a nonconference game during the midweek, facing Tusculum College on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., immediately following the women's game against Columbia College at 4 p.m.
