DECATUR, Ga. (April 18, 2015) â€" After a 5-2 victory over Point University in the quarterfinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, the Milligan College men's tennis team's season came to a close with a 5-0 loss to No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan College in the semifinals Saturday night.
ÂÂ
With the end of the season came several high notes, however, as
Colin Bumann and
Jackson Lenoir were named to the All-Conference team, Bumann was named to the Champions of Character team, and
Will Blackmarr, Bumann and
Fernando Gonzalez were named to the All-Academic team.
ÂÂ
Bumann was 5-7 overall during the regular season, playing exclusively at the one singles position this spring. Four of his five singles win came in consecutive order at the end of the season as he posted victories over UVa.-Wise, Montreat, SCAD Atlanta and Point University before having his streak broken by Tennessee Wesleyan's Ezequiel Gils, the AAC Player of the Year, in the regular season finale.
ÂÂ
Bumann's streak helped the Buffaloes (7-7, 4-3 AAC) post their own five-match winning streak which was also finally snapped by No. 21 TWC at the end of the season.
ÂÂ
Lenoir, playing exclusively at the three singles spot since the end of March, went 9-3 during the regular season, highlighted by seven straight victories to round out his junior year. Paired with Gonzalez, Lenoir was 9-3 in doubles action with the only loss in the last month coming against the aforementioned nationally ranked TWC Bulldogs.
ÂÂ
As it turned out, those same Bulldogs, winners of the AAC regular season with a 16-2 (7-0 AAC) mark, would defeat the Buffs 5-0 in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Milligan entered the postseason with the four seed and defeated fifth-seeded Point University handily Saturday morning in the opening round after rain wreaked havoc on the tournament's schedule.
ÂÂ
Milligan and Point were originally scheduled to play Friday night with all quarterfinal matchups to happen Saturday, but relentless rain forced the changing of match times.
