GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 5, 2015) â€"
Jonathan Colson netted his third goal of the season and
Thomas Suits scored his first, but it wasn't enough as the Milligan College men's soccer team was defeated by Tusculum College, 4-2, Saturday night in Greeneville, Tennessee on Pioneer Field.
ÂÂ
Milligan's record fell to 0-6 with the loss, while Tusculum's rose to 2-0 in what was only its second match of the year.
ÂÂ
In addition to the goal scorers,
Tapiwa Kaseke and Suits Milligan led with four and three shots, respectively, all in the second half, while
Zana Ali added three shots, all of which were in the first half.
ÂÂ
The first half was dominated by the Pioneers, who outshot the Buffs 11-6, including 6-2 on shots on goal, and had four more corner kick opportunities (5-1) than Milligan.
ÂÂ
After Tusculum got the scoring started in the 26th minute when Cody Kammerzell took the deflected pass from Nathaniel Scere in the box and scored into the post, Milligan responded less than four minutes later with a goal in the 30th minute as
Anthony Walker dished a cross into the box that found a wide open Colson ready for the goal.
ÂÂ
Next, the Pioneers began to string a multitude of shots together between the 37th and 39th minutes, forcing Milligan keeper
Nick Smith to stay on his toes. Two corner kicks and four shots, two of which required saves, in just over two minutes of clock began to spread the Milligan defense apart and opened the door for the Pioneer's second score of the half, this time in the 44th minute as Ricardo Da Silva headed in the pass from Kyle Dickson.
ÂÂ
In the second half, Tusculum launched 16 shots, including five on goal, compared to eight shots for the Buffs, four of which were on goal.
ÂÂ
The Pioneers wasted little time pressing the issue in the second half, firing five shots in the first six minutes, which led to their third goal of the match as Kyle Dickson connected on a blast from 12 yards in the box.
ÂÂ
The Buffs however, responded with a goal of their own to cut the lead to one at 3-2 when Suits scored on a free kick from about 40 yards away.
ÂÂ
Milligan than began to gain confidence and attacked with three shots in the 63rd minute, two of which were by Suits, followed by two more shots in the 72nd minute by Kaseke, but could not get one to go in.
ÂÂ
Tusculum fired back with four shots between the 82nd and 84th minutes, with the last going into the back of the net for their fourth goal as Pablo Laguna took a cross from Todd Fidler at the top of the box and blasted it past Smith in the goal.
ÂÂ
Smith ended with seven saves for the Buffs, while Alvarez had four in net for the Pioneers.
ÂÂ
Next up, Milligan returns home to Anglin Field seeking its first win of the year against Johnson University on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
