Men's soccer falls at AAC foe Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2017) â€" The Milligan College men's soccer team lost a 4-1 decision to Appalachian Athletic Conference member Bryan College Wednesday night in a rescheduled contest on the road.

Bryan, the second-ranked team in the AAC with a record of 9-5 (5-1 AAC), got on the board quickly, when Brad Spooner found the back of the net in the first minute of the match. Spooner then doubled the lead for Bryan midway through the first half via a penalty kick in the 23rd minute, and Kevin Roenpage made it 3-0 with less than eight minutes to go in the first half.

Bryan nearly made it 4-0 in the closing seconds of the half as a foul roughly 30 yards out gave the Lions a free kick which required a diving save attempt from senior goalkeeper Nick Smith. The ensuing corner kick gave the Lions another look in the final seconds but a header on Milligan's back line cleared the threat and teams went into the halftime locker room at 3-0.

Similar to how Bryan jumped into the lead quickly in the first half, Milligan scored a quick goal to open the second half. It came from junior Tayzere Arnott with an assist to sophomore Joel Dominguez in the 47th minute. However, that was as close as the Buffs would get as the two teams played a 3-1 game until late in the game when Bryan's Arthur Dombrowski rounded out the scoring to make it 4-1.

Smith made four saves for the Buffs in the loss, facing 20 shots (eight on target).

Milligan will be back home for its next match on Saturday versus No. 25 Truett-McConnell University at 6 p.m. for another AAC contest. It will be the first of three remaining home matches for Milligan this season.
