PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2017) â€" Sophomore
Leonardo Guiaro had the eventual winner and senior
Josh Willard added two goals in the second half to help the Milligan College men's soccer team pick up its first win of the season Friday night on the road. Milligan defeated University of Pikeville 3-0.
ÂÂ
Guiaro's winning goal came in the 14th minute via a free kick from just outside the penalty area. It was Guiaro's first goal of the season and second goal of his career, and it gave the Buffs all the offense they would need. Senior goalkeeper
Nick Smith needed to make only three saves as he faced 11 total shots, including three on target. Milligan took seven shots, including four on goal. Smith's first save was career save No. 200.
ÂÂ
Willard doubled the lead in the 54th minute when freshman
Junior Nyamunda fed him a long through ball that Willard finished in the right corner of the net to make it 2-0. Less than six minutes later, Willard rounded out the scoring with his second goal, unassisted, which made it 3-0.
ÂÂ
Willard's two goals were the only two shots he took in the contest while Guiaro worked the same efficiency with only one shot needed for his goal.
Up next, Milligan will be at home on Sunday for a nonconference match against Cumberland University at 5 p.m. Cumberland is 3-1 this season and posted a 1-0 win over No. 19 John Brown University earlier this week. More recently, the Phoenix fell to AAC member Tennessee Wesleyan University 3-1.
