Men's tennis suffers first loss

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2018) â€" Taylor Graalman improved to 4-0 in singles with a straight set win, but the Milligan College men's tennis team lost for the first time of the 2018-19 season, 5-2, to Mars Hill University Wednesday at Mathes Tennis Center.
 
Milligan (3-1) had won its three previous matches in dominating fashion and opened the day with two wins in doubles, but Mars Hill took five of the six singles decisions to overcome the early deficit. Graalman/Mason Grear and Griffin Leonard/Charlie Moseley stayed perfect in doubles action with 7-6 (7-5) wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to help Milligan get out to an early lead. Graalman/Grear improved their record together to 3-0 â€" Grear improving to 4-0 in doubles action â€" and Leonard/Moseley moved to 2-0.
 
In singles action, Graalman, Grear, Thomas Hurt, Leonard all entered the day 3-0, but only Graalman stayed perfect. Graalman defeated Mars Hill's Rodrigo Ramos 6-4, 6-3 for his fourth win in straight sets.
 
Up next, Milligan will compete again in spring 2019. The first match of the new year will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, at home against Tusculum University, followed by another home match against Lees-McRae College Saturday, Feb. 23. The Buffs have nine home matches on the spring portion of the schedule.
