Men's soccer falls at Lees-McRae in nonconference action

BANNER ELK, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2018) â€" The Milligan College men's soccer team took to the road Saturday for a nonconference match against NCAA Division II member Lees-McRae College, but the Buffaloes came away with a 3-0 loss to the Bobcats.
 
The loss put Milligan at 4-5-1 this season while Lees-McRae continued its hot streak to improve to 6-4-1. LMC has now won three straight and five of the last six.
 
Lees-McRae jumped on the board in the fifth minute and led the rest of the way. Although Milligan kept it 1-0 for the remainder of the first half, Lees-McRae scored again in the 52nd and 60th minutes to open up its lead.
 
Milligan was outshot 21-5 in the loss, including 7-2 on shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Russell, in his collegiate debut, made four saves. Lees-McRae also held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.
 
Up next, Milligan returns to Anglin Field for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup versus St. Andrews University. It will be the first of three remaining home matches for the Buffs this season.
