Men's tennis suffers narrow loss to open 2020

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Jan. 15, 2020) – Carter Rigsby and Charlie Moseley picked up wins in both singles and doubles, but the Milligan College men's tennis team lost its first match of the spring semester, 4-3, to Lees-McRae College Wednesday afternoon at Bristol Racquet & Fitness Club.

The pair helped put Milligan out to a one-point advantage after doubles, winning 6-2 at No. 3 doubles while Jose Giler and Taylor Graalman won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. However, LMC responded with four of the six points in singles. Rigsby and Moseley earned the two singles points with wins at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles.

Rigsby won his first set in a tiebreak, 7-5, before winning by retirement after one game in the second set. Moseley's match went the distance, and the junior won 10-6 in a super tiebreaker. This followed bouncing back from a loss in the first set to win the second 6-0.

Up next, Milligan plays on the road twice before coming home for the first time in the 2019-20 season on Saturday, Feb. 22. The home match will be the Appalachian Athletic Conference opener against Union College and is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Mathes Tennis Center.
