Three second half goals lift Buffs to 3-0 win

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 24, 2022) – The Milligan University men's soccer team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Montreat College by a score of three to nothing Saturday evening at Anglin Field. The win marked the Buffs' third consecutive victory over AAC opponents.

Milligan started the game on the offensive, recording five shots before Montreat registered its first attempt in the 27th minute. Greg Anderson had a near miss in 16th minute and the Cavs' keeper made a pair of point-blank saves on shots by Asa Blake and Anderson in the 24th.

Eight minutes into the second half, the Milligan press won possession the offensive third and a cross from Clay Gallant nearly connected with a leaping Bennett at the left post.

Soon after, the Buffs retook possession and Blake found Edward Burgos just outside the six-yard box, he blasted a shot at the keeper and it deflected off the goalie and trickled in for his first goal as a Buff. Milligan led took a 1-0 lead in a 53rd minute.

Bennett cashed in with his fourth goal just five minutes later. Ethan Bishop sent a rolling cross from the deep left corner and Bennett redirected the shot into the lower right corner to give Milligan a 2-0 edge.

Anderson made it a 3-0 game in the 76th minute, pouncing on a rebound for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Buffs outshot Montreat 24-4 for the match with 11 shots coming on goal for Milligan compared to just two for the Cavaliers. Milligan also held the advantage in corner kicks 5-3.
