Game Recap: Women's Flag Football |

Flag Football opens 2024 season with 14-0 win over Point

WEST POINT, Ga. (February 24, 2024) – The Milligan University women's flag football team opened its 2024 campaign with a 14-0 victory over Point on Saturday afternoon. The Buffs also dropped a 14-6 decision to Campbellsville at Point.

Milligan moves to 1-1 on the season.

Game 1 – Milligan 14, Point 0

Milligan scored its first touchdown of the season in the first quarter as Bridget Keyser found Sarah Rankhorn in the back-right corner of the end zone from 18 yards out to give the Buffs a 6-0 edge. Keyer connected with Sam Urso for the PAT to give the Buffs a 7-0 lead.

The Buffs extended their advantage to two scores midway through the third quarter. Mykelah Davis found pay dirt with a two-yard touchdown run. Ashton Wheatley scored a one-point conversion to extend Milligan's lead to 14-0.

Wheatley and Abbylin LaPrise each had an interception as the Buffs kept the Skyhawks off the scoreboard and held on for the 14-0 victory. The win marks Milligan's first-ever shutout and first triumph under head coach Ryan Witten.

Game 2 – Campbellsville 14, Milligan 6

The Tigers scored in the first quarter and carried a 7-0 edge into halftime. Campbellsville scored early in the fourth quarter to increase its lead to 14-0.

Keyser connected with Whearley on a 17-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 14-6. Milligan's conversion attempt was no good to keep Campbellsville up eight.

The Buffs forced a punt and drove the field, ultimately reaching a goal to go situation with the clock winding down. Keyser took four shots at the end zone but could not connect for a potential game-tying touchdown as time expired after Milligan's fourth down attempt fell incomplete.

Whearley also notched an interception against Campbellsville.

Milligan heads to Life on March 4.
