MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Saturday evening, the (RV) Milligan men's soccer team took the pitch at Anglin Field for a contest against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival Union Commonwealth University (Ky.). After a hard-fought game that saw opportunities from both sides, neither side was able to score, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Milligan (9-4-2, 8-3-1 AAC) had their first opportunity of the game in the 15th minute when
Federico Confaloni had his shot blocked, but it bounced to
Marco Lattanzi, who had an open look at the net and missed his shot just high of the net. Three minutes later, Confaloni had an opportunity to score again after getting the ball into the goal box and sending a shot that was saved by a Bulldog defender with no keeper in net. Overall, MU had 9-4 shot advantage after the first stanza.
The second half was one that was controlled by Union Commonwealth, as they took 18 of the 20 total shots in the period.
Kerim Akpinar had the best opportunity for the Buffs with a header in the 78th minute that missed high of the net, and despite the pressure Milligan defense faced in the second half, UCU was unable to capitalize on any of their opportunities.
Akpinar led Milligan's attack with three total shots while Lattanzi and Confaloni were the most accurate attackers, each having a shot on frame.
Freddie Zinn added two shots and
Myles Diel tacked on one in the contest.
Adria Alles had an outstanding performance and saved all seven of the shots on goal. His record moves to 7-4-2 for the season.
Next up for Milligan is a tune-up match before the AAC Tournament. The Buffs will face Carolina University (N.C) on Saturday Oct. 25 for their final regular season game on the road at 7 p.m.
