MILLIGAN, Tenn. – Milligan University's homecoming weekend was in full swing on Saturday morning, when the Buffaloes men's and women's swimming teams hosted the King University Tornado inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. After 25 total events, the Buffaloes nabbed two wins by tallies of 140-63 on the men's side and 131-69 on the women's.
The day began with the 400 Medley Relay, as the MU women began the day with a 4:34.56 showing from
Mia Windham,
Emily Newman,
Abigail Maniace and
Mary Grace Bitting to take the victory. On the men's side, a 3:51.70 was achieved by
Paxton Smith,
Robert Adam,
Christoph Haenel and
Caleb Fry to win their event, as well.
Riley Renaud swam the lone women's 800 Freestyle race that was completed in under 10 minutes at 9:51.13 to take the crown in the event. The men's race saw
Atakan Ercan take the victory with a mark of 8:41.08, outdueling a King swimmer by just under half a second.
The 200 Freestyle on the women's side was won by Maniace, who clocked in at 2:13.14, just over a second-and-a-half faster than her second-place competitor from King. The men's 200 Freestyle saw
Sergio Tudor claim a personal-best time of 2:01.02 to win the race. Just behind him was both
Wyatt Pierce in second at 2:03.56 and
Jacob Miller in third at 2:04.01.
The 100 Backstroke was taken home by
Emily Dubes on the women's side, as she posted a strong mark of 1:08.36, which was more than four seconds faster than the field. Smith was the victor in the men's race at 59.14, outdueling a King swimmer by just under half a second.
The first event that the Buffs did not win was the women's 100 Breaststroke, in which Newman placed second at 1:20.53 and Bitting ended up third with a 1:22.92 mark. Additionally,
Phoebe Lichty had a personal-best swim of 1:24.54 to place fourth. It was Fry time in the men's race, as he took home a win by over two seconds (1:07.04) and his teammate
Andrew Dawson followed him as runner-up (1:09.19).
For the women's 50 Freestyle, Milligan ended up with the top two times, notching a 28.55 from
Lauren Brindle as the winner and a 29.05 from
Jocelyn Waits, which was her personal-best time. The Buffaloes did not win the men's 50 Freestyle, but Smith came in second at 24.03 to notch a personal-best clip.
Brindle won the women's 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:05.05, while the men posted second, third and fourth-place finishes from Fry (53.23), Haenel (53.60) and
Gellert Szedlak (54.60).
Milligan's 400 Freestyle results on the women's side included a win by Newman in 4:46.50 and a second-place showing from Renaud in 4:46.58, just eight hundredths apart.
Robert Adam (4:10.92) and Ercan (4:11.68) were the top two for the men in first and second.
In the 100 Butterfly, Maniace took home the women's title with a 1:07.61 swim. She was followed by
Peyton Brady, who scored a 1:11.87 to place second. The men's 100 Butterfly followed a similar pattern, as Haenel touched the wall first in 57.57. Then, Tudor finished in 57.71 as the runner-up.
The women's 200 Individual Medley was won by King, but
Teagan Jose was the runner-up in 2:41.85. The men's 200 IM saw
Nathaniel Halloran place second with a season-best mark of 2:20.51, with
Jack Allen (2:20.63) finishing right behind him.
Milligan posted the top two times in the 200 Freestyle Relay on the women's side, with Dubes, Newman, Maniace and Bitting making up the title-winning squad in 1:53.35. Jose, Renaud,
Abby Pauls and Windham placed second in 1:58.84. Closing out the event, the men wo their 200 Freestyle Relay in 1:35.11, as Smith, Haenel, Szedlak and Fry teamed up to hoist the crown.
