BOONE, N.C. – The No. 3-ranked Milligan University men's cross-country traveled to Boone, N.C. Friday evening for the Firetower Project Run, hosted by Appalachian State University at their on-campus cross country course. Among a list of impressive programs, the Buffs beat out the team scores of three NCAA Division I programs, including Radford, Coastal Carolina and College of Charleston for a third place finish.
Individually,
Bryson Lewis led the Buffs with a 15th place finish, notching a season best time of 24:04.0.
Aaron Gottlied followed with a personal record time of 25:20.4 and a 17th place finish.
Winston Telford rounded out the top three finishers for Milligan in 23rd place with a mark of 25:41.3.
The final two counting scores came courtesy of two seniors in Joshua Hale (25:43.9) and
Luke Kennedy (26:04).
Ashton Sheesly (26:21.7), Rowen Moser Bryan (26:28.4), and
Jack O'Leary (26:36.4) all finished within fifteen seconds of each other, with each placing in the top 50 of the 100 total runners.
Marti Molins Rallo (26:52.8) and
Evan Holbrook (26:53.5) crossed the line next and placed 58th and 61st, respectively.
"The men are doing a nice job by committee and Bryson is always going to give you everything he has," said head coach
Chris Layne. "That squad has more in there for sure, so I'm excited to see where we end up a month from now."
Milligan will now travel to Salem, Va. for the Roanoke Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18, looking to continue their impressive start to the campaign.
