KINGSPORT, Tenn. – On Saturday afternoon, the Milligan men's and women's swimming squads entered the pool at the Kingsport Aquatic Center and battled both Catawba College and Roanoke College. The Buffaloes split the day from a win-loss standpoint, scoring wins against the Roanoke squad (144-57 (W), 157-30 (M)) and dropping their tilts with the Catawba contingent (23-181 (W), 47-139 (M)).
Starting off the day, the Milligan women's 200 Medley Relay A squad, consisting of
Mia Windham,
Teagan Jose,
Mary Grace Bitting and
Emily Dubes posted a 1:52.53 to place third behind a pair of Catawba squads. The men's version was similar, with the Milligan A team (
Paxton Smith,
Elijah Holliman,
Christoph Haenel and
Caleb Fry) placing third after a pair of Catawba groups.
Riley Renaud was the Buffaloes top finisher in the 1000 Freestyle, as she clocked in at 11:20.20 to finish third out of five competitors.
Atakan Ercan was the men's winner in the 1000 Freestyle, though it did not count to team scores because no Catawba swimmers competed. Ercan won with a lead of 14 seconds, finishing in 9:50.67.
A pair of Milligan men's swimmers showed impressive performances in the 50 Freestyle, as Smith came away with a runner-up finish and a stellar 20.87 mark. Haenel placed third with a 21.41.
Peyton Brady placed third in a highly competitive women's 200 Individual Medley, boasting a 2:14.21 clip. For the men, it was
Robert Adam who came away with a second-place finish in 1:52.31, just 0:00.21 behind the eventual victor from Catawba.
Abigail Maniace finished her 100 Butterfly in under one minute, clocking in at 59.53 to place fourth as an individual in the event. The Milligan men had two of the top three swimmers in their swim of the 100 fly, as Haenel was the event winner in 50.10 seconds.
Sergio Tudor placed in the third spot with a special 50.75 swim.
The Buffaloes' men saw Smith speed away with a 100 Freestyle win, as well, as he finished in just 45.86 to take home the crown.
In the women's 100 Backstroke, Windham ended up in third place, touching the wall in 59.77 seconds to round out the podium. It was
RJ Brumit who pulled off the same third-place finish in the 100 Backstroke, as he posted a strong time of 54.09.
Emily Newman's 500 Freestyle swim of 5:25.64 put her in third place at the event's conclusion, as she came to the finish behind two Catawba swimmers.
The men's 100 Breaststroke was another event that Adam placed second in, as he finished in 57 seconds flat.
Rounding out the day, the Buffaloes' women's 200 Freestyle Relay A squad placed third in 1:41.39, as Dubes, Maniace, Newman and Bitting combined for the effort. The men also had their top team place third with a mark of 1:26.02, as Smith,
Gellert Szedlak, Adam and
Nathaniel Halloran teamed up for a 1:26.02 time.
