SARASOTA, Fla. — On Saturday, several members of the Milligan swimming program took part in the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Open Water Championships in Sarasota, Fla. The Buffaloes notched the top NAIA times in both the men's and women's 5k race at the event.
The men's race, which began at 8:30 a.m., included five Milligan swimmers, as Atakan Ercan led the way for the team by placing 11th out of 89 swimmers with a time of 54:17.60. That was the top NAIA time at the championship. Peter Gilbert (1:01:07.00) and Jacob Miller (1:05:23.00) both finished the race in full, while Robert Adam also swam.
Riley Renaud placed 46th in the women's race as Milligan's lone competitor, while posting a 1:01:07.00 at the event. Like Ercan, she nabbed the top NAIA finish in her race.
The Water Buffaloes are coming back from a short break on Jan. 9-10 for the Colonel Classic at Centre College in Danville, Ky.
