BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Milligan university men's tennis team returned to the court on Thursday afternoon against the Lees-McRae College Bobcats in Banner Elk, N.C. At the conclusion of the contest, the Buffaloes fell 6-1 to the NCAA Division II foe.
For the doubles competition, Marcos Moreno and Thiago Petry managed a 6-3 win in match No. 2. Unfortunately, a 6-3 loss from Michal Curlej and Tomas Tenil in the No. 1 match, coupled with a tiebroken 7-6 loss from Brayden Kennedy and Gonzaga Lafarga in battle No. 3 gave LMC the doubles point.
There were several very tight matches in the singles competition, as Lafarga went the distane in match No. 1, eventually falling by tiebreak 5-7, 6-4, 6-7. Bout No. 3 was also a tiebreak loss in the third set by Tenil, as he fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-7. Moreno ended up winning 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10) in a tiebreak to earn Millighan's lone point of the afternoon.
The men will be back in action against Tusculum University on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at Mathes Tennis Center.
