Milligan Men Lead, Women Sit in Third after Friday at AAC Outdoor T&F Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Milligan University outdoor track & field added five more Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) titles on Friday's day two of the conference championships. Two Buffs women and three MU men nabbed the wins.

On the track, Brayden Simpson began the Buffaloes' impressive day with an AAC title in the 110m Hurdles, clocking in at 14.51 seconds, which was just 0.01 off the NAIA 'B' standard.

Hunter Crook notched a 10.75 in the 100m, placing eighth and earning the men a point.

The Buffaloes had the conference champ in the women's 1500m, as Ellen-Mary Kearney ran a 4:31.22 to earn the top podium spot. Karly Wilhjelm finished in sixth with a 4:49.77 mark.

For the men, Bryn Woodall earned the win with a 3:47.98 mark in the 1500m, while three other Milligan runners placed fourth, fifth and sixth. Douglas Cornfield (3:58.32), Aaron Gottlied (3:58.61) and Blake Hipkiss (3:59.23) grabbed those spots.

Milligan then also had four finishers in the top eight of the men's 400m, with Romario Taylor taking the AAC title at 48.09. Luis Peralta came away with fourth, running a 48.60, while Kaleb Spears (49.24) and Aaron Vaughn (49.66) placed fifth and sixth.

Annika Hoefler came away with a sixth-place finish in the women's Hammer Throw, as she tossed 42.64m.

Keri Belcher then posted a personal-best mark of 3.04m in the women's Pole Vault to earn an AAC title. Mary Custodio ended up third in the event, vaulting 2.85m.

Men's Hammer Throw saw Corey Greeson toss a 45.86m distance to earn the fifth-place mark.

Half of the men's Decathlon was completed on Friday, as Philip Lotivio currently leads the field with 3146 points and Brendon Gibson sits in fourth with a total of 2652 points with five events remaining on Saturday.

The men's standings still have Milligan atop the list, having amassed 98 points, so far. For the women, it is third place that the Buffs currently occupy. They have 64 points with Saturday left to be completed.
