First Round of NAIA National Championships Produces Strong Results for No. 13 MU Women's Golf

YPSILANTI, Mich. — On Tuesday, the No. 13-ranked Milligan University women's golf squad competed in round one of the NAIA National Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. at Eagle Crest Golf Club. It was a stellar day for the team, as four of their golfers finished the opening set of 18 holes in the top third of the 155-golfer field to lift the squad to a fourth-place standing at +20 with one round to go before the tournament's cutdown day.

Kate Castle ended the day tied for ninth, shooting a three-over-par 75 to tie with nine other competitors. She sits 10 strokes back of the lead.

With just one more shot than K. Castle on the first day, Mallory TeVrucht had a +4 round on the links to finish knotted up in 19th place with seven of her counterparts.

Sarah Castle then sits tied for 37th at six-over-par, while Catalina Easley is tied for 43rd with a litany of opponents at +7.

Bailey McGaha also played the first round and shot 14-over-par, tying for 119th on the tourney's opening day.

Several teams' rounds were suspended on Tuesday night due to darkness, which means they will continue their rounds at 7 a.m. tomorrow. For the Buffaloes it will be a later start, as their first tee shot will be taken at approximately 2:10 p.m. They look to build off a strong start over the course of the first 18 holes by making the cut as a top-15 squad after Wednesday's action.
