Two Milligan Individuals Qualify, Men's 4x800m Wins Heat to Reach Final on Day One at NAIA Outdoor Championships

MARION, Ind. — Milligan University's outdoor track & field squads began their assault on the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marion, Ind. on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday. Chilly conditions didn't hold the Buffs back, as two individuals and a relay squad qualified for their respective finals with two days remaining.

Ellen-Mary Kearney began the Buffaloes' day with a stellar run of 4:35.66 in the women's 1500m prelims to place second in her heat, which was also second overall. That effort pushed her through to the final on Friday at 2 p.m.

Bryn Woodall then matched EMK's output in the men's 1500m, coming in second in his heat with a time of 3:57.24. That was also the second-fastest time overall, which sent him forward to Friday's final at 2:10 p.m.

Later in the evening, the Milligan men's 4x800m Relay was able to take the victory in their heat after a massive comeback in the late stages by the anchor, Woodall. Sylas Chambers, Luis Peralta and Carter Windham ran the first three legs of the race to finish fourth overall with a time of 7:38.81. They will now compete in the nine-squad final on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Finally, Winston Telford's 10000m race in the late hours of the night resulted in a 22nd-place showing with a 32:24.82 mark to end day one.

The Buffaloes will return to the track tomorrow with Kearney and Peralta starting the party with the women's and men's 800m prelims at 2:30 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. Romario Taylor will then run the men's 400m preliminaries at 4:20 p.m. and the Buffs' men's 4x800m Relay squad will run their final at 6:30 p.m. Telford will run the men's 5000m at 7:35 p.m., and lastly, the Milligan men's 4x400m Relay will take place at 8:45 p.m.
