MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Wednesday night, the (RV) Milligan University men's soccer team celebrated their seniors with a convincing Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win over the Bluefield University Rams on Anglin Field, with three of the Buffaloes' six goals scored by seniors.
Milligan struck early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, as
Javier Salgado deposited a
Federico Confaloni pass into the back of the net in the seventh minute of the contest. That was his first goal of the season. After staying put at 1-0 for the majority of the remaining minutes, the Buffs scored their second goal on an
Emir Basar strike past the keeper on a slick assist by
Asa Blake in the 40
th minute. It was a 16-1 shot advantage held by MU after one half.
The second period was another one dominated by the Buffaloes, as four goals were scored. All four came between minute 65 and minute 76. The floodgates opened on a
Nathan Gilhooly strike in the 65
th minute, assisted by Basar off a corner kick. Then, Confaloni got in on the goal-scoring action, placing a shot past the goalie on a feed from
Justin Madejski. Blake scored his first goal of the campaign in the 72
nd minute, receiving a gorgeous pass from
Kerim Akpinar to make it 5-0. Finally,
Marco Lattanzi scored his second goal of the season on a setup by
Ethan Hayes to make it 6-0, which is where the scoring would conclude.
Following the two halves, Milligan's shot edge was 34-3. They held a 13-3 lead in shots that were on frame, as well. The majority of the Buffs' roster notched at least one shot on frame, as Madejski, Confaloni and Lattanzi were the only three with a pair of them on net.
Kodjo Bakou, Basar, Akpinar, Gilhooly, Blake, Salgado and
Grayson Hammond took one apiece that were either saved or resulted in a goal.
Â
Adria Alles notched a shutout, which is his fourth of the season. He has surrendered no goals in four of Milligan's six wins to this point in the campaign and holds a 6-2-1 overall win-loss-tie record.
Next on the schedule for the Buffaloes is a meeting with the Truett McConnell University Bears on Anglin Field this Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m., as the Buffs look for their fifth straight victory in conference play.
