Milligan Men's and Women's Tennis Win Tilts with UT Southern in Pulaski

PULASKI, Tenn. – On Saturday, Milligan's men's and women's tennis teams competed against the No. 20 and unranked University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks teams, respectively. The Buffs squads both came out victorious. The men's squad completed the sweep of the Firehawks by a final score of 4-0, while the women's team came away with an impressive top 20 win with a final score of 4-1.

The Buffaloes' men secured the doubles point on Saturday, with Gonzaga Lafarga and Phil Schollhorn taking a 6-4 win in the No. 2 matchup, before Brayden Kennedy and Tomas Tenil teamed up for a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 battle.

The singles competition began with Michal Curlej winning the first set 6-3, followed by a 6-1 victory in the second set to earn the match win. Schollhorn secured an impressive 2-set tiebreaker victory with the scores of 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 final. Tenil faced off in the No. 6 slot winning 7-5, 6-2 which secured the win for the Buffalo Men. Martin Mercarder and Thiago Petry's matches were not completed as Tenil's victory had already clinched the win for Milligan.

The Lady Buffs captured the doubles point against the Firehawks, with the Buffs winning the No. 1 and No. 2 contests. Lee Anne Endler and Melissa Duarte won the No. 1 matchup in convincing fashion, 6-1. While Madison Berry and Parker White took the No. 2 win with a score of 6-2.

In the No. 2 singles matchup, Duarte got the win due to a Firehawks retirement. Tara Stewart fought hard but ended up falling in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1 in the No. 3 dual. White had an impressive showing in the No. 4 matchup as she came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Berry held strong against the Firehawks in the No. 5 dual, taking the straight sets 6-3, 6-1. With the match clinched, Endler and Laurel Rich were not required to finish their matches.

The two squads next matchup will be back on their home court on Feb. 26, as they face off against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs.
