MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Monday, Milligan's men's and women's tennis teams hosted Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University at Mathes Tennis Center on Milligan's campus. The men's squad defeated the Lions by a final score of 5-2, while the women's team edged out a hard-fought 4-3 victory.

The (RV) Buffaloes' men started the day by earning the doubles point, with
Gonzaga Lafarga and
Phil Schollhorn taking a 6-4 win in the No. 1 matchup, before
Brayden Kennedy and
Tomas Tenil teamed up for a 6-3 win in the No. 2 battle.
Michal Curlej and
Martin Mercarder completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 slot.
The singles competition began with Lafarga cruising to victory in the No. 1 position with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. Curlej also picked up a two-set victory by a dominating 6-2, 6-1 final in the second position. Schollhorn battled in the No. 3 slot but dropped the match in two sets by a 4-6, 3-6 final. Mercarder secured another point for the Buffs with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the fourth position, while Tenil added to Milligan's lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 slot. Kennedy dropped a tight match in the sixth position, falling 5-7, 5-7 in two competitive sets.
The Lady Buffs also earned the doubles point against Freed-Hardeman, sweeping all three matches.

Melissa Duarte took a 6-4 win in the No. 1 contest,
Laurel Rich and
Parker White dominated 6-0 in the No. 2 matchup, and
Tara Stewart and
Trinity Fox completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in the third position.
In singles competition, Duarte fell 3-6, 4-6 in the No. 1 slot for the Buffs. Stewart picked up a crucial victory in the second position with a 6-3, 7-5 win. Fox battled in a competitive No. 3 match but dropped a tight first-set tiebreak before falling 6-7, 1-6. White compiled a 6-4, 6-1 win in the fourth singles match to keep Milligan in contention. Berry secured the game-winning point with a hard-fought three-set victory in the fifth position, winning 6-2, 5-7, 10-7. Rich dropped the final match of the day in the sixth position, falling 2-6, 4-6.
Next up for the squads will be an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup in Montreat, N.C. with Cavaliers from Montreat College on Thursday, March 26. Both teams are set to start at 2 p.m.
