CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Milligan University men's and women's tennis squads played their final tune-up matches on Friday afternoon in preparation for the upcoming Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament. Despite a few close matches, the (RV) men's team fell by a 7-0 final, while on the women's side
Melissa Duarte picked up the lone victory for the Milligan programs in a 6-1 loss.

The men began the day with a set of doubles matches.
Michal Curlej and
Martin Mercarder fell in the No. 1 slot 6-4, followed by
Brayden Kennedy and
Bryant Morales suffering the same 6-4 loss in the No. 2 slot. In No. 3 doubles,
Gonzaga Lafarga and
Phil Schollhorn lost 6-2. Lafarga kicked off singles by falling 4-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 position. Curlej was competitive in the No. 2 slot despite a 3-6, 4-6 loss. Schollhorn dropped a competitive first set 5-7 before retiring in the No. 3 spot. Mercarder dropped the No. 4 match 4-6, 5-7. Kennedy played the first three-set singles match of the day in the No. 5 slot, falling 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Matias Angulo dropped the No. 6 match 2-6, 3-6.
On the women's side, Campbellsville captured the doubles point by sweeping all three positions to take a 1-0 lead before singles began.
Madison Berry and Duarte dropped the No. 1 match 4-6,
Laurel Rich and
Tara Stewart fell 1-6 at No. 2, and
Sarah Crouse and
Shawna Arnold were blanked 0-6 in the No. 3 slot. Stewart dropped No. 2 singles 1-6, 0-6. Berry fell at No. 3 singles, dropping the opener 2-6, taking the second 6-3, and coming up short in the third 3-6. Rich fell 1-6, 0-6 at No. 4 singles. Crouse dropped No. 5 singles 0-6, 0-6, and Arnold fell 0-6, 0-6 at No. 6 singles. The match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where Duarte delivered the Buffs' lone victory in a hard-fought three-set battle, dropping the opener 4-6, rallying to win the second 6-2, and closing it out 7-5 in the third.
Next up for both squads will be the AAC Tournament hosted in Kingsport, Tenn. starting Monday, April 20 and running through April 22, after the scheduled match against Brescia (Ky.) on Saturday, April 11 was canceled. The men will enter as the No. 3 seed and the women as the No. 4 seed.
