Lady Buffs fall to Montreat

Montreat, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team fell to the Lady Cavilers of Montreat College (Montreat, N.C.) Thursday night in AAC action by a final of 3-1 (16-25, 19-25, 25-18, 14-25).  

The Lady Buffs were led offensively by junior Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) who tallied 10 kills against the Lady Cavs. Fellow junior Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) had a stellar night in the middle with eight kills, three block solos and one block assist. The AAC setter of the week, freshman Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.), had her sixth double-double on the year with 30 assists and 11 digs. Defensively, sophomore libero Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) racked up 16 digs to lead the squad.  

“We came into the match really focused, but we just let one mistake lead to another for the rest of the match,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “We need to stay focused from start to finish and become more consistent.”

With the loss the Lady Buffs slipped to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in league play. Montreat advances to 14-8 overall and 7-2 in the AAC.  

The Lady Buffs are idle for the weekend, but pick up play next week as they travel to rival King College on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m.
