Lady Buffs rout Bluefield 5-0

Bluefield, Va. (Oct. 21, 2009) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team defeated the Lady Rams of Bluefield College (Va.) Wednesday night on the road by a final of 5-0.

Milligan came out of the gates firing as they had a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of the contest. Former Science Hill standout, Kelsey Kind (Johnson City, Tenn.), opened up the scoring in the 16th minute off of an assist from freshman Sam Barton (Marietta, Ga.). Minutes later, last year's AAC Newcomer of the Year, Nine Henriksson (Gotenborg, Sweden), found the back of the net in the 20th minute from sophomore Rachel Martin (Blountville, Tenn.).

To top off the explosive first half, Kind knocked in her second goal of the night and fourth goal on the season to give the Lady Buffs a 3-0 advantage at the break.

During the second half, Martin knocked in a goal of her own in the 64th minute to continue the Milligan scoring barrage. With 20 minutes still remaining on the clock, the Lady Buffs scored for the fifth time from an unassisted goal from sophomore Lauren Lameier (Woodstock, Ga.) to cap off the offensive showcase.

The Lady Buffs recorded a season high 13 shots on goal, as compared to the Lady Rams two shots. Freshman keeper Heather Crumplen (Courtice, Ontario) stopped both of Bluefield's testers and recorded her third shutout of the year.

“I think it was great to get an AAC result tonight,” commented Head Coach Lisa Buckley. “It was an all-around solid team performance for us. Everyone came into this game ready to play and focused.”

With the win, the Lady Buffs improve to 4-4-3 and 2-1 in the AAC, while they move up to second place in the AAC standings.

The Lady Buffs host the Lady Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday, Oct. 24, for an AAC contest. Action begins at 4 p.m. on Anglin Field.
