Barton lifts Lady Buffs over Lady Eagles

Waleska, Ga. (Oct. 3, 2009) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team recorded their first AAC victory Saturday against the Lady Eagles of Reinhardt College (Waleska, Ga.) in a dramatic double overtime finish, by a final of 1-0.

After 109 minutes and 59 ½ seconds of a scoring drought, freshman Samantha Barton (Marietta, Ga.) broke the stalemate and the hearts of the Lady Eagle fans as scored her second goal in as many games to give the Lady Buffs the victory.

Barton received a pass from sophomore Rachel Martin (Blountville, Tenn.) after she won a free kick from fellow sophomore Erin Brewer (Brownsburg, Ind.) just outside the box. After one touch, Barton reared back and sent a shot that would eventually catch the right side of the net with just .5 seconds remaining in the contest.

Defensively, freshman Heather Crumplen (Courtice, Ontario) recorded her first shutout of the year having tallied six saves in the contest.

“Reinhardt is a solid team and it is good to get this result from such a good program,” commented Head Coach Lisa Buckley. “We have been performing well all year, but we have lacked results so it's definitely nice to put the two together.”

With the win, the Lady Buffs improve to 2-4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Lady Eagles slipped to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the AAC.

The Lady Buffs host former AAC rival King College (Bristol, Tenn.) on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.
