Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 8, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team took down the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont (
Bristol, Va.) in a league matchup Thursday night in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan defeated Virginia Intermont in three straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-16). ÂÂ
Early in the first set the Lady Buffs lost freshman standout
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) to injury during a routine play, which forced Head Coach
Doneva Bays to switch up the lineup. ÂÂ
Bays called on senior
Meredith Lynch (Lexington, Ky.) who signed as a setter three years ago for the Lady Buffs. With the game on the shoulders of Lynch, she led her squad to victory tallying 14 assists and a team high 14 digs on the night. ÂÂ
The offensive attack was headed up by junior
Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) who notched seven kills, while fellow junior
Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) had six kills. Hale also pitched in eight digs and five block assists. ÂÂ
“It's always hard when adversity hits during a match,” commented Bays. “We have outstanding senior leadership and tonight we really pulled together to secure the win.”ÂÂ
With the win, the Lady Buffs advance to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in league play, as the Lady Cobras fall to 2-17 overall and 1-10 in the AAC.
