Lady Buffs stay alive in AAC Tournament

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team split in their first two contests of the 2009 AAC Volleyball Tournament, but won back-to-back single elimination sets to advance to the semifinals.

The Lady Buffs won the afternoon session 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 24-26, 25-15) over the Lady Cavs of UVA-Wise, but fell to Montreat (N.C.) College in the evening session by the same final (21-25, 28-30, 25-22, 17-25).

Facing defeat, the Lady Buffs had to knock off Bluefield (Va.) College and Reinhardt (Ga.) College to keep their playoff hopes alive. Milligan took a close first set 25-21 over the Lady Rams, and then rolled to victory over the Lady Eagles 25-16 to advance to the final day.

“It feels great to come back and win two straight sets after losing to Montreat,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “We really battled hard in the two elimination games and showed how much heart we have as a team. Hopefully, we can use this momentum tomorrow and make a run in the semifinals.”

The Lady Buffs take on Union (Ky.) College Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m., in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. This year's tournament is being played at the Meadowview Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
