Lady Buffs beat UVA-Wise

Wise, Va. (Nov. 21, 2009) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team beat the Lady Cavs of UVA-Wise Saturday afternoon in AAC action by a final of 81-64.

The Lady Buffs dictated the tempo of the game forcing 17 turnovers and grabbing 41 rebounds. Capitalizing on a 3-point shooting percentage of almost 60 percent the Buffs held a double-digit lead for most of the second half.

Offensively, junior center Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) had her seventh double-double of the season in this afternoon's 18 point, 10 rebound performance. Mandela's counterpart in the paint, sophomore Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) also managed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) tallied 16 points in the contest.

“They focused on our inside game in the first half which gave us good looks from the three point line and we knocked them down,” commented Head Coach Rich Aubrey. “This was a good road win for us against an up and coming Wise team.”

The Lady Buffs go to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Lady Cavs fall to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Buffs travel to NCAA Division II Lees-McRae Monday, Nov. 30, for a non-conference matchup against the Lady Bobcats. Tip-off is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
