Williamsburg, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2009) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team fell to the University of the Cumberlands Tuesday in an overtime battle. The Lady Patriots outlasted the Lady Buffs by a final of 2-1. ÂÂ
Milligan fell behind early after a goal that snuck in off the crossbar by Lady Patriot Davin Caudill in the 21st minute. Milligan continued to battle but stood one goal down at the break.
During the second half the Lady Buffs struggled to find the net, until sophomore
Nine Henriksson (Goteborg, Sweden) knocked in a header from sophomore
Rachel Martin (Blountville, Tenn.) in the 79th minute to tie the game and force the overtime.
Milligan had a chance to take the lead in the 93rd minute when sophomore
Lauren Lameier (Woodstock, Ga.) had a breakaway look, but the Lady Patriot keeper saved the first attempt, and Lameier missed just wide on the rebound. A minute later, the Lady Patriots scored the go ahead goal to secure the win.
“Although I am disappointed with the loss, I am very proud of how hard our team played today,” commented Head Coach
Lisa Buckley. “We played a physical game against a physical team, and despite the loss we ground out a result which was good to see.”
The Lady Buffs play host to the Lady Scots of Covenant College (
Lookout Mountain, Ga.) Saturday, Sept. 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Anglin Field.   ÂÂ
