Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team bounced back after a slow start to knock off NCAA Division II North Greenville University Tuesday in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The Lady Buffs (3-3, 0-0) defeated the Lady Crusaders 3-1.
After a shaky first match with the Lady Buffs falling 25-15, Milligan bounced back with authority to take the next three sets consecutively 25-15, 25-23 and 25-20.
Sophomore libero Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied 33 digs from the back row to pace the Lady Buffs defensively. Freshman Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) chalked up a double-double as she recorded 37 assists, 13 digs and pitched in two aces. Offensively, the Lady Buffs were led by junior Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) and sophomore Cerissa Warner (Johnson City, Tenn.) who both had nine kills apiece.
“I am thrilled with the win tonight,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “With us only playing one match last week, we were very eager to get back on the court. We came out a little sluggish in the first match, but rallied back for the win. Hopefully this will give us a confidence boost as we open up AAC play this weekend.”
The Lady Buffs open up their conference play against the AAC foe Bryan College (Dayton, Tenn.) on Friday, Sept. 11. The action between the powerhouse squads begins at 6:30 p.m. in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.     ÂÂ
